Charitable Giving

Offering financial and other kinds of community support is one of the key ways we work to keep Port Alberni strong.

We make many contributions to the community, including:

	Used equipment donations — We donate used equipment to local groups. For example, we donated a forklift to support the local fall fair.
	Multi-purpose arena — We supported the construction of a new community arena and continue to make annual payments that will amount to a total donation of $300,000 by 2009.
	Education scholarship — Each year, we offer six $1,000 scholarships to deserving local student. Applicants must be dependants of Catalyst employees or retirees or have graduated in Port Alberni. Applicants must plan to become full-time students at a technical institute, community college or accredited public university following high-school graduation.
	Christmas for Kids Campaign — Our employees have been regular and significant contributors to the local Salvation Army Christmas for Kids Campaign.
	Food bank — Our employees donated Christmas party ticket proceeds to our local food bank.

Our community investment activities are directed by our local donations committee, which is composed of a cross-section of employees.
