Charitable Giving
Offering financial and other kinds of community support is one of the key ways we work to keep Campbell River strong.
We make many contributions to the community, including:
| United Way — We are generous contributors to the United Way of Campbell River and District. In 2007 our employees donated some $36,000 to the cause. We collected about $1,100 through scrap sales, and our division made an additional corporate donation of $18,400 for a total more than $56,000. | |
| Used equipment donations — We donate used equipment to local groups. For example, we have donated used electrical equipment to North Island College and rubber gloves to a community group for shoreline cleanup. | |
| Education scholarship — Each year, we offer six $1,000 scholarships to deserving local students. Applicants must be dependants of Catalyst employees or retirees or have graduated in Campbell River. Applicants must plan to become full-time students at a technical institute, community college or accredited public university following high-school graduation. | |
| Casey Creek restoration — For several years, volunteers from our division have joined community volunteers to help restore Casey Creek, a salmon-bearing stream that runs near our mill. With company support, these volunteers have built a walking trail, helped stabilize the stream bed and helped install a fish-counting fence. | |
