Aboriginal Groups
Aboriginal groups - "First Nations", in the context of our Canadian operations - are among our neighbours at all of our operations. We recognize the unique nature of their interests and the importance of their aspirations.
In recent years, Catalyst has worked to forge stronger relationships with aboriginal groups. In the case of our Powell River Division, we signed a formal Cooperation Protocol with the Tla'Amin (Sliammon) First Nation, and have subsequently developed an important joint venture involving both the Tla'Amin and the local municipal government.
In the case of the We Wai Kai First Nation, in the Campbell River area, relationship-building is focused on environmental issues, and a joint committee has been formed to advance mutual understanding and address immediate priorities.
More details on our aboriginal relations is provided in our Sustainability Report.
