Environmental and Safety Results
The environment and worker safety are two of our top priorities.
Our Paper Recycling Division has a strong commitment to the environment. The plant's effluent is processed through primary and secondary treatment facilities before entering the municipal effluent system, adhering to strict regulatory environmental standards. All air emissions and waste material disposal are kept well within permitted levels.
We strive to be a leader in safety performance. Everyone in our workplace has a right to and shares responsibility for worker health and safety.
We're proud of our environmental efforts
| The de-inked pulp (DIP) we produce helps our customers meet legislative requirements of buying paper with recycled content and meet their own commitments to use recycled materials. | |
| Our production of DIP enables us to use more recycled content in our paper, especially in light of potential fibre shortages or escalating electricity prices, or in times where our thermomechanical pulp output is constrained. | |
| The plant processes newspapers and magazines sent for recycling from B.C., western Canada and the US. About 70 per cent of the old newspaper supply for the recycling plant comes from B.C. and Alberta. The division processes about 70 per cent of all the old newspapers collected in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. | |
