Cowichan Lake Weir Shuts Down for Winter Oct. 29, 2008

Crofton, BC - On October 29, 2008, Catalyst Paper will cease operation of the Cowichan Lake weir that regulates water flow out of Cowichan Lake. Recent rainfall that is replenishing the lake has caused water levels to rise such that water is soon expected to be cresting over the top of the weir and naturally increasing flow in the river.

Water flows to be increased in Cowichan River

Crofton, BC - Beginning today, the Cowichan Lake weir operation will increase the river flow rate from 15 cubic meters per second to 18 cms, as directed by the Ministry of Environment. These flow changes are aimed at continuing to reduce the lake level, which is higher than normal for this time of year, while also facilitating fisheries broodstock collection by Cowichan Hatchery personnel.
