Catalyst Paper restructuring plan not approved by creditors

Richmond, BC – Catalyst Paper Corporation announced that the company did not receive the necessary creditor approval for its amended plan of arrangement under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act. Approval of not less than 66 2/3% of the principal amount of each creditor class voting on the plan is required.  Although 99.5% of the principal amount of the secured creditor class voted in favour of the plan, only 64% of the principal amount of the unsecured creditor class voted in favour of the plan at meetings held today in Richmond, BC. Catalyst Paper announces Amendments to Plan of Arrangement

Richmond, BC – Catalyst Paper today announced that it has amended its proposed Plan of Arrangement (the Plan) under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act. The Plan as so amended (the Amended Plan) will be considered by Catalyst Paper’s secured and unsecured creditors at the meetings scheduled for May 23, 2012 (the Meetings).

Catalyst Paper Q1 results impacted by restructuring costs

Richmond, (BC) – Catalyst Paper recorded a net loss of $25.6 million in the first quarter of 2012 due primarily to the impact of restructuring and reorganization expenses of $27.6 million. Before specific items, the net loss was $9.6 million. This compared with a net loss of $708.0 million and $41.7 million before specific items in the fourth quarter which was impacted by significant impairment charges on Canadian operations and on Snowflake mill lands, restructuring costs and foreign exchange.
