He began his career as a press operator and is a graduate of the advanced web printing program at the Rochester Institute of Technology and the applied arts/graphics program at Algonquin College. Before joining Catalyst in 2003, Rob worked as technical customer service manager for Stora Enso North America. Rob is based in Richmond.

Blair Lyon
Senior Technical Customer Service Representative (Northern California)

Blair lives and breathes directory paper, having worked in technical support roles for RR Donnelley, James River Corporation and Simpson Paper Company before joining Catalyst in 1996 to lead the development of lightweight coated papers at the Port Alberni mill. Today he focuses heavily on directory paper performance and improvements. "Our technical team not only benefits from a printing background, but substantial experience in a broad range of printing and converting categories. We can draw on this depth of knowledge when resolving print problems with our customers. And it provides a big advantage in developing new products to meet existing or emerging customer needs." John Dunn
Senior Technical Customer Service Representative

John has worked in the lithography and paper industry for 32 years. His knowledge of the printing industry was built from the bottom up, with 23 years to his credit. John prides himself on providing his customers with in-depth commercial printing knowledge, and uses his experience to help customers improve quality, maximize production and reduce waste. His goal is to provide the best technical customer service possible. John is based in Long Beach, California.

John Whitaker
Technical Customer Service Representative (Central)

John brings a wealth of experience to his position, having been associated with the printing industry for more than 40 years. Before immigrating to Canada in 1977, he completed his apprenticeship as a printing press operator in Scotland, then moved to England and completed a bachelor's degree in printing technology at Watford College of Technology. John also worked as the customer service manager at Quebecor World's Richmond Hill plant in Ontario before joining Catalyst in 1989 as a technical representative at the Crofton mill. John is based in Colorado.

Russell Thompson
Technical Customer Service Representative (Midwest)

With 26 years of experience in the printing, publishing and paper industries, Russell has provided technical support to our customers in the US Midwest and East Coast since joining the company in 2002. He previously worked in printing for Greater Buffalo Press (now American Color Graphics) and Quebecor Printing in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Russell also worked for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as the purchasing manager in charge of paper purchasing and in technical service and sales for Canadian Pacific Forest Products (now Bowater) and Alberta Newsprint. Russell is based in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Wayne Friesen
Manager Logistics Technical Services

Wayne has been with the company for 23 years. With a BSc degree from the University of Victoria, he started in the company's groundwood operation before moving into the accounting department. Wayne then completed the CGA program and was promoted to shipping supervisor in 1992. He is widely recognized for excellence in handling and logistics customer service and is now based in the Crofton area as the company's technical logistics manager.

Stuart Mason
Technical Customer Service Representative

Stuart has been with the company for four years and brings a wealth of experience to the technical customer service team. He has worked in many aspects of the paper handling business, from equipment manufacturer to paper mills and printers. As an engineer, Stuart worked on a variety of mechanical hydraulic, electrical equipment and installed the first-ever computerized paper roll clamp in the UK. With Catalyst, he has worked to reduce damage and improve handling for the company's mills, warehouses and printers. Stuart is based in Richmond.
