Stakeholder Relations

Corporate responsibility is at the heart of who we are and what we do. We are a member of many communities and we strive for relationships that reflect mutual regard for the:

  • Safety and well-being of people.
  • Vibrancy of communities.
  • Viability of business operations.
  • Stewardship of natural surroundings.

Our products are manufactured to high environmental standards and shipped using an efficient, multi-modal freight system. We earn our customers’ confidence because we don’t sacrifice business performance in implementing green practices. Our focus on operational efficiency makes both financial and environmental sense.

Environmental Partnerships

Relationships with non-governmental organizations help us to reality test our industrial practices and perspectives. Our work with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) supports global forest and marine conservation, carbon emissions reductions and cleaner production. Through the Coast Forest Conservation Initiative, we helped forge a new ecological forest management system on the central and north coast of British Columbia.

Participation in Metafore, a program of the GreenBlue Institute, is focused on market-based solutions, education and recognition of the environmental pedigree of products and industrial processes. We were a founding member of The Climate Group, a non-profit organization that focuses on global policy development and cooperation in pursuit of a low-carbon economy.

The Pembina Institute provides us with a window on green energy developments and carbon accounting while Pollution Probe has completed a study on toxics and health. As a long-time member of the Canadian Business for Social Responsibility, Catalyst remains at the forefront of emerging trends, practices and social policy issues of critical importance to our industry and company.

Our environmental leadership has been widely recognized:

  • Top 50 ranking by Corporate Knights
  • Top 50 ranking by Jantzi-Sustainalytics / Macleans magazine
  • Conference Board of Canada’s Climate Disclosure Leadership Index
  • Metafore Product Innovation Award for Catalyst Cooled manufactured carbon neutral paper
  • World Wildlife Fund "Gift to the Earth" award for the Great Bear Rainforest agreement

Catalyst also maintains relationships with indigenous groups, recognizes their exceptional status as community stakeholders and is committed to open, respectful dialogue.
